The 'unknown' is built on speculation, with fluid agencies and imaginary narratives. How do we as spectators observe the unknown that is physically out of reach, and how would it spectate us?

From debating the classification of deep-sea species on live stream chats, to operating light instruments that measures distance in pelagic zones, ocean exploration emphasises how far we are to these almost microscopic observations. To provide the possibilities of an interaction in spaces we could never inhabit, brings to light how we do so anyway to study an existence we could never know.

Deconstructing ocean exploration archives, this work reflects the narrative of the unknown in surrealist cinema and the deep-sea, which seems to linger in spite of scientific advancements
